The Keys to Excellence

Trusting Yourself

It all starts with trust because when you honestly trust in your abilities & potential you have a belief of “I AM GOOD ENOUGH” no matter what happens. When you have genuinely cultivated this belief all athletes are then set up become the greatest versions of themselves possible.

Becoming UnstoppablE

The road to sporting excellence is pathed with wrong turns, barriers and holes but all athletes who achieve their potential have a tenacious, unstoppable drive to become the greatest version of them self they possibly can be. When you are unstoppable the challenges & obstacles become meaningless and you just do what needs to be done in order to get where it is you want to go. When you have a belief of “I AM UNSTOPPABLE” it brings with it a powerful level of inner confidence knowing that things aren’t going to go to plan out on the pitch/court/track etc but you will find a way to get over the line, win and do it without question, fear or hesitation.
The game is won long before athletes step out to perform. The top athletes have a crystal clear neurological map wired into the mind of exactly how they are going to perform. There is far, far more to the art of visualisation and when athletes learn how to do this their performance becomes effortless because when it comes to competition day they simply step into the what they have neurologically created and solidified inside their mind.

Getting into a PEAK STATE is fundamentally crucial to optimum performance. In Psychology terms this refers to the principle of the “Inverted U Theory”. All athletes underperform when they have been unable to create an internal state which energises their inner neuro-chemistry of their mind and their body. Peak STATES build. Every athlete has to have an “off switch” and an “on switch”. As time gets closer and closer towards to a match/competition starting the inner physiological feeling to perform must gradually increase towards the STATE which is most conducive for the sport the athlete is performing in.

Finding

the

FLOW

All great sporting performances can only ever be achieved once the athlete has got themselves into a state of “FLOW” (aka- “The Zone”). When you remember the great sporting performances ever seen; the types of performances where athletes are achieving the unthinkable, where records are broken & history is being re-written. This can only ever be possible by the athlete(s) accessing a deeper level of consciousness where they become completely immersed in what they are doing with absolutely no recognition of fear, failure or even glory. When athletes perform this level all boundaries and limitations dissolve and their truest expression of their abilities and potential flows from within them effortlessly.

The art of Letting Go

Every single great athlete who has ever graced the world of sport made countless mis-takes and errors. The difference with these athletes is that they learnt to let go of those mis-takes, move on and energise their internal state so they then went out and did something about it without that internal movie and nagging voice keep replaying over and over of the event. Every second you’re thinking of a mis-take it is taking you further and further away from performing to your greatest potential.
Without self-control and the ability to regulate your emotions while performing in intense environments you will never keep yourself in the peak state you need to be in, in order to perform at your optimum level. The nature of sport (and life) is so unpredictable. So being able to take control of your inner thoughts, the movies inside of your mind and the emotional feelings you feel is crucial to optimum performance. When you let frustration, anger, pressure and doubts take control over you, your performance will only ever decrease. Learning how to take control of those emotions give you the self-power to perform with freedom from fear and with this comes the ultimate expression of your greatest self.

“The tree which bends with the wind will never break”. The art to achieving excellence is knowing that it never comes exactly how you planned it, while knowing that you must have a plan to get there and achieve it. There is no possible way of ever predicting every single outcome, event or obstacle so you must develop the inner recourses, mindset and beliefs to cope with the unpredictable nature of sport and life. Can never control all the opposition, the weather, referees and random coincidences but you can control how you react in those moments and what you do next. All great athletes have cultivated this ability and mindset. This is what sets them apart from the rest.
